Here are some questions and remarks, that were asked and stated by tourists (US tourists in this case) while being on the cruise in Russia and Ukraine.
These are real questions and quotes, I used to collect them while working on boats as a tour guide and cruise director.

1. Oh, I did not know that Russians were our allies during World War 2! (After a talk on Russian history)

2. Do you have the same currency in Saint Petersburg as in Moscow? (Cruise Moscow to Saint Petersburg)

3. What is the average number of people that come down with diarea per trip? (Cruise Moscow to Saint Petersburg, orientation meeting)

4. Is this a Russian flag on the Kremlin? (during Red Square tour)

5. Irkutsk Museum of Natural Life, looking at a stuffed muskdeer. "Is this a giant rat?" (Lake Baikal cruise)

And here are some tourists questions, collected by American and British tour guides:

1. If it rains, wil lthe fireworks be held inside?

2. When do they turn off the waterfalls? (at Yosemite Nat'l Park)

3. How much does it cost to mail a letter to the U.S.? (from an American tourist in Hawaii)

4. How come all of the war battles were fought in National Parks?

5. What time does the 9 o'clock ferry leave?

6. How long is a one-day pass good for?

7. Is that the same moon we see in Vermont?

8. "My fiancй and I booked a twin-bedded room, but we were placed in a double-bedded room. We now hold you responsible for the fact that I find myself pregnant. This would not have happened if you had put us in the room that we booked."

9. "Gee, this Shakespeare dude is tough, I wasn't expecting so many words and stuff." (New Yorker who, having sat through the first half of Shakespeare's Othello at the Globe Theatre in London said to his friend in the interval)

10. Why did they build Windsor Castle on the flight path to Heathrow?" (American tourist asking British tour guide)

11. "Why did they build so many ruined castles and abbeys in England?" (American tourist asking British tour guide)

12. "I'm from Europe, you know, where the history comes from" (British tourist stating to the tour guide in the US)

Here is another one, that I just remembered: It happened in 2003, when Saint Petersburg was celebrating its 700th anniversary. There were big banners and ads everywhere, dedicated to this event. There was one big banner right on the building of the airport in Saint Petersburg. "Saint Petersburg: 1703 - 2003" was written on this banner. As we were seeing tourists off to the airport, one lady saw it and was genuinely surprised: " What an old airport you have! I did not know they were flying then!"
